Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness

Condition awareness films bringing the lived experience of pulmonary hypertension to life.

A series of condition awareness films created to raise understanding of pulmonary hypertension, a serious and incurable condition that affects the blood vessels supplying the lungs and can impact people at any stage of life.

To develop the work, I undertook detailed research into the condition and spent time speaking directly with people living with pulmonary hypertension, in order to properly understand the physical, emotional and day-to-day impact it can have. These insights informed the scripts and creative approach, ensuring the work reflected lived experience rather than medical abstraction.

The films were written and creatively directed by me, and brought to life through the performance of a single actress who embodied the different symptoms, limitations and emotional states associated with the condition. A range of filming techniques were used to visually support the storytelling and help audiences better understand what pulmonary hypertension can feel like from the inside.

The result was a set of empathetic, human-centred films designed to increase awareness, understanding and emotional connection—demonstrating how complex medical conditions can be communicated with sensitivity, clarity and impact.
